The Hospitaller Order of St. John of God

The Fundació Privada per a la Recerca i Docència Sant Joan de Déu (Sant Joan de Déu Research Foundation) is set within the framework of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, an international non-profit organisation that is devoted to sheltering, accompanying and promoting the health of the most vulnerable persons. Its origins date back to the 16th century and it is now present in 50 countries around the world. It is formed by 1,230 brothers, over 40,000 co-workers (professionals and volunteers) and over 300,000 benefactors.

Our Foundation belongs to the Aragon-San Rafael Province of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God. This Province – one of the three into which Spain is divided – comprises over 5,000 professionals, 1,052 volunteers and 81 brothers, in addition to a network of donors.

Under the concept of hospitality, the Order provides shelter, promotes health, offers accompaniment and undertakes commitments in the most vulnerable spheres of our society. And it does so with a broad outlook based on universality and the favouring of effective professionalism. The work carried out by the Order in the Province is visible through its social welfare centres[mg1] , hospitals, healthcare centres, social services and religious communities. These are plural centres with a social commitment that is shared in many cases with other institutions of public, ecclesiastic or private character, with which the Order has an affinity of motivation and a vision in common.
